House Arrest

Friday night we were treated by a couple in our church to a wonderful performance of the play Man of LaMancha. It was performed by high school students that are studying theatre, all who were above average, but we're pretty sure the lead of the play needs to run (not walk) to Broadway.

Saturday we first checked off our list sleeping in! Much needed. Then we made our way to Plum's, a fun little cafe that serves creative breakfasts. The last time I was there my morning sickness made it difficult to appreciate anything but the toast and jelly so this round I decided to go all out and get eggs, peppered bacon, and raspberrry pancakes with vanilla creme...yum! (P.S. to those of you tracking my weight...yes, I'm talking to you Doctor...I lost 3 lbs this appointment so I'll be having seconds and dessert).

Sunday was marked by church, RA lunch, and a shower/bachelor party. We decided to have our RA staff over for Pizzas, Pumkins, and Pazooki's. Kicking off the afternoon our boys cut pizza toppings to decorate their own french bread pizzas. Note when buying pizza ingredients for boys---more meat...less veggies...lesson learned. Next we moved to the pumpkin carving phase (see pictures) and then topped off the afternoon with Pazooki's (for those of you not familiar with the famous Pazooki...it is a piping hot cookie with icecream).

Several times on Sunday, we checked CNN online to read about the Malibu fire. It wasn't until around 6 PM that evening when we stepped outside to go to our respective shower/bachelor parties that we discovered that another fire was quite near in Irvine.

As it stands, Southern Calfornia is anything but the fabulous sunshine state. With over 13 fires raging, the sky near our home is filled with smoke and ash.

Due to the air quality, our campus has cancelled classes beginning this afternoon and is encouraging students to go home. I will remain indoors (like being on house arrest without the ankle bracelet) until the the air clears. We are simply grateful that we are safe from the flames and continue to pray for relief from the winds for those fighting the fires and those living in areas where homes and businesses are being destroyed.
