12 Days

A couple of months back Gabriel began pooping far less frequently. Our pediatrician reassured us that a baby is not considered constipated until 12 days have passed. I honestly thought he was joking as I am not fond of missing even one! In any case, we began living by his wisdom and decided to simply mark the last day that Gabe pooped on our dry erase board in the kitchen. This last Sunday marked day 11 without even so much as a streak...poor babe was in some serious pain. With the help of a couple good mommy friends, we rubbed his tummy and massaged his ankles (hey those pressure points have been known to send a woman into labor...a small terd seemed doable). Nothing.

That night Jeremey and I placed him in the bath for some leg kickin' action, once in his jammies applied more pressure to his tummy, and then just prayed for poo! Still nothing.

Day 12 arrived and with the first diaper change there was just a little yellow patch...enough to know that things were in motion. Within a couple of hours we hit the motherlode! I opened the diaper and immediately the left foot entered the pile...stay calm wipes are on the way. Before I could clean the foot, he grabbed a chunk with his left hand...ok with a little creativity this should work out...as I turned to grab for a wipe my elbow knocked the wipes out of their container and to the floor. Sweet. Gabe's right hand has now entered his mouth, a sure confirmation that if I let go of his left poop filled hand that it will go to the same location. Awesome. I decide that I will hold the leg and hand while reaching for the wipes...Victory! Thankfully, just as I retrieved the wipes, Jeremey walked in the door (probably not for this purpose but hey why not join the fun).

I wish there were a moral to this story but all I've got is 5 poopy diapers in ONE day and all is now well at the Kings.

On a completely unrelated note, here are some fun pictures from Gabriel's first day at Big Corona Del Mar Beach! It was sweaty hot but it didn't stop our son from sportin' the hottest swim gear in So. Cal.
